Sleep Training: Night Two (Part II)

And…he’s down! I have no idea for how long, but his little eyes are closed and he’s no longer crying so I can now take a sigh of relief. *SIGH* Phew!Screen Shot 2015-06-11 at 8.15.56 PMWhen I see how precious he is sleeping in his crib, I swear that sleep training is worse on me than him.

I mean, it takes every part of my being not to run in there, scoop him up, and snuggle up to that little 14.8 pound body!

To think that I’m not supposed to touch him for 8 – 10 hours so that he can sleep is unimaginable.

Screen Shot 2015-06-11 at 8.24.29 PMI know! I know! You don’t have to tell me.

I should be doing the items on my “to do” list such as folding laundry, organizing the tupperware, starting a sewing project, reading this month’s Book Club book, preparing for tomorrow’s work day and whatever else is on there but instead I am sitting here in the dark staring at my computer screen watching him squirm around in his sleep.

Sleep Training: Night Two

Man! I’m on my own tonight as Beetle is out watching the Warriors game with friends, and this is tough! His little cries are killing me.  I think he knows I’m watching him on the camera because he keeps looking straight at it! At ME!  Screen Shot 2015-06-11 at 7.48.20 PM Screen Shot 2015-06-11 at 7.48.37 PMLast night was so easy…it must’ve been beginner’s luck. Or the bath?  I didn’t do the bath tonight…that must’ve been my mistake.  I will make a mental note and try it tomorrow.

Sleep training is the pits!  I’ve missed him all darn day while he is with the nanny and when he sees me, I am “torturing” him by making him cry in a dark room by himself.  Ugh!

It’s a Sprinkle!

We celebrated my niece-to-be with a “sprinkle” hosted by my sister’s sweet friends.  Until I received the invitation, I had no idea that baby #2 gets a {sprinkle}, instead of a shower.  It makes sense but was just a foreign concept to me.

Typically the perfect baby, Henry was not having his best day as I forgot a swaddle blanket! Believe me when I tell you that he didn’t let me forget it, either!  After refusing to fall asleep without his beloved swaddle, I paid for it with a few tears and his high pitched cries. Talk about feeling like a failure! Ugh. I totally dropped the ball!

Other than feeling like the worst mother ever, the day was beautiful, the party was fun, and the company was fantastic. The hostesses really impressed me with their adorable decor, fun games, delicious food, and outpouring of love for my niece-to-be.

And of course, I have to include a photo of my shower for a #throwbackthursday!  Can you believe how much STUFF we received for our little bundle?  Sheesh! It is ridiculous how much stuff the modern parent “needs” to ease parenting. Ridiculous but oh, so necessary.V baby showerShowered with Love,

ThrowBack Thursday: We Must’ve Played Too Hard

I miss Henry so much when he is with the nanny during the day that when I see him, we immediately hit the floor together to play with toys, the dogs, tags, tupperware, and anything else laying around.

Sometimes, the playing gets a little too much for him and he starts the “cry/laugh” stage where he will start to laugh at something but then it turns into a cry with big alligator tears.  When it happens, I see it as my cue for the swaddle and a quick nap.  The other night, I didn’t even finish the swaddle before he was sawing logs and snoring!  He was so cute, I left him in the position and snapped a few photos to document.

Would you believe me if I told you that he slept for two straight hours in this position?  I could not believe it.

Live Blogging: Night {One} of Sleep Training

Happy 5 month-iversary to Mr Henry Hayes. Hooray!  We will do our photoshoot tomorrow as today has slipped past us.  I was so focused on starting the sleep training that I didn’t even remember to take progress photos until now.  Of course…and now it is too late because he is down for the count.

To be honest, I have been dreading the whole sleep training thing but after speaking to the pediatrician, Beetle & I agreed that it was time to start and I have to say…Henry is a rockstar!

Perhaps this can be a smoother transition than I anticipated.
Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 7.45.49 PMHere’s how it went:

  1. We played on the floor with the dogs (40 minutes)
    1. This included rolling around, playing with toys, laughing at Penny chewing on a bone, and doing a few leg stretches.
  2. We took a bubble bath together and played with bath toys (25 minutes)
  3. Baby Massage with lotion to moisturize
  4. Put on a clean diaper
  5. Dressed him in a Halo sleep sack (arms out)
  6. Nursed (15 minutes)
  7. Read (3) books (done while nursing)
  8. Turned on the white noise machine & sleep sheep
  9. Turned off the lamp
  10. Laid him in the crib on his back
  11. Stuck a teething toy and a pacifier in the crib with him
  12. Walked away

Phew! Looked at the clock and noted that it was 7:18pm.

7:58pm Saw on the dropcam that he was moving around and heard him crying. I started the timer and painfully watched the clock click down for ten whole minutes!

Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 8.03.59 PM

At the ten minute mark, I sent Beetle in with a pacifier and instructed him to rub Henry’s head and to turn his Sleep Sheep (womb noise maker) back on, as it had timed out.

I said, “under no circumstances should you pick him up!”

After hearing that, Beetle quickly ran back out asking me to do it because he knows that he won’t be able to stop himself from picking Henry up.  I then walked into the nursery, without saying a word, flipped Henry on his back, gave him a pacifier, rubbed his head, turned on the womb noises from the Sleep Sheep and pressed play on the white noise machine that had stopped (for who knows what reason) and watched as he drifted back into sleep.

8:16pm: Oh no! We lost the live feed connection.  The dropcam isn’t connecting to WIFI so I have no idea what it looks like in there.

8:17pm: I can’t take it!  I sneak into the nursery to move the dropcam and to check on Henry. Yes, he’s breathing! Yes, he’s sleeping! Yes, he looks comfortable.

8:18pm: I walk back out to the living room to look at my computer. YESSSS! The dropcam is back online! The re-connection was a SUCCESS!

9:09pm: I hear him stirring.  Looks like he moved…again!

Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 9.09.49 PM9:17pm: I don’t see the blanket moving in the position he is in so I head into nursery to feel his breaths. My paranoia got the best of me.  I sneak in to check and feel him swat at my hand.  Phew! …that was a close one.

11:59pm – Henry woke up and after about a minute of crying, I did what I wasn’t supposed to do and swooped in and picked him up. Inner Dialogue says, “Poor guy must be starving!!!” I brought him to the spare bed and nursed him.

12:10am: He fell asleep nursing so I picked him up and put him back in the crib.  I put a pacifier in his mouth, turned on the Sleep Sheep, and slinked off to the spare bed.

4:30am: I woke up to him coughing and although his eyes were closed, I felt the need to intervene so I grabbed him.

4:32am: Nursed him!

6:42am: I open my eyes to morning and see his sweet little face next to mine. We fell asleep together in the spare bed.  Inner dialogue, “Wow!!! I would call that a success.”

I feel so proud of him.  Great Job, Henry! You aced the first night of sleep training. Way to Go!

Amazon’s Dirty Monkey Paci Clip

I don’t typically have a dirty mind but when searching for a pacifier clip for the bambino, I came across this little monkey.  When I saw him, my  mouth hit the floor, and I immediately clicked on his image.

Do you see him?

Here is a closer look…

Screen Shot 2015-06-02 at 7.51.47 AMDoes anyone else think the photo looks a little Rated R?  I mean…there are plenty of other photos of this monkey clip that are a bit more PG so perhaps Amazon should consider switching it out.

Just a thought!

He’s {Almost} A Man on the Move

man on the move

For the past two months, Henry has been testing his leg strength and absolutely loves standing. He loves it so much, it is darn near impossible getting him in a seated position for the bath + carseat.

When holding his little hands, he can take steps, albeit wobbly!  But he can most definitely move his little feet in the walking motion – One foot in front of the other.

I’m not sure why he insists on growing up so fast but apparently he has places to be!

Don’t stand in his way.

A Pool Party for Our Teeny, Tiny Hoomans!

With the summer heat in the DC area, it was a no brainer to spend an afternoon of Memorial Day Weekend with our dear friends for a baby pool party.  Henry was the youngest one there but that didn’t stop him from observing the older babes and grabbing for their toys.

I could watch him play!unnamed-5unnamed-4unnamed-3unnamed-2

The Flying All Star

unnamed-4Our cross-country flight from DC to SF was so perfect that I completely forgot about it until just now.  Henry was a dream!  He slept the majority of the flight but when he wasn’t sleeping, he was wooing the other passengers and taking in all of the different faces.

I was so surprised by all the time I had available to me that I didn’t know what to do with my free time.  Once I snapped out of the fog and realized that I should take advantage of the baby sleeping, I popped in earphones and watched the movie, “Nightcrawler,” which I highly recommend!

Armed with a few toys, clean diapers + wipes, pumped breast milk, a cool outfit, and a swaddle, we were flying champs!  It goes without saying that we impressed the heck out of our fellow passengers with how well it went!  They weren’t shy in letting us know how crazy we are to fly with a senior dog and an infant across the country but were happy we kept our little circus in check!:)
