The Apple of My Eye

I can’t deny it…Hen is the apple of my eye. He is on my mind 100% of the time and ALWAYS brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye when I think of his sweet face.

I found out this week that the apple of your eye can also be a stye!

Between the following:

  • sleepless nights – no amount of coffee and concealer can hide the obviousness of the lack of zzzzzzs happening in our household right now.
  • no naps – our adventurous, curious, curly-haired babe hasn’t napped so hasn’t been able to “recharge.”
  • no appetite – all of the snacks and nutritious meals end up on the “just mopped” floor.

…the past few days have been more stressful than most.

Finally! An answer!

After a few more nap strikes and sleepless nights, we made the decision to take Henry to the pediatrician. I’m glad we did because he has a double ear infection and is now on antibiotics.  Man! What a tough, little guy.  He has been fussy and clingy over the past few days on top of not sleeping or napping so I just chalked it up to a phase. Well, now I know that it isn’t a phase.  He was in pain and suffering and trying to communicate it to me.

How could I have not known?  I feel awful!

99% of the time, I feel I am ROCKING this #motherhood thing but then things like this happen and it makes me question EVERYTHING.

I am not perfect.  I will make mistakes.  I can only do my best.

But the silver lining is that Hen and I had two hours of “us” time today while we went to the doctor.  He even humored me and acted like a kid model so that I could post his photo on the blog and brag about how beautiful and perfect he is – because, after all, HE IS!

Hen has been on a nap strike over the past few days.  I guess he is having too much fun and has too much FOMO {fear of missing out}. Whatever is going on, it seems that we may have turned over a new leaf this morning.  He’s currently passed out in our bed looking like a starfish.

I just can’t even handle the cuteness…

Our Whirlwind Weekend – South Lake Tahoe, CA

It’s Monday – blah!

But the good news is that I am having a blast reminiscing about our weekend.  On Friday, we headed up to South Lake Tahoe, CA where Henry and his sweet friend, Lizzie, saw snow for the firs time. I absolutely love FIRSTS!

Speaking of firsts…

This was my first trip/vacation with a family who has a babe around Hen’s age.  It was an absolute blast and a great FIRST experience.

I don’t know how we did it, but we packed in EVERYTHING we wanted to do in a short amount of time.  We took the babies sled riding, the dads took them up the mountain in a gondola, the moms luxuriated with massages, tv time, and a dip in the hot tub. We ate great food, had awesome conversations, and had the best time watching Henry + Lizzie play together.

Mark this under my new favorite hobby – #1 is watching Hen + Lizzie interact.

Ish, Ish

-Ish, -ish is a common word around our household these days as Henry has been obsessed with FISH!

Now that he points them out, we see them everywhere.  Almost every single one of his books has a fish in it. Somewhere….on a page. It is unreal – pay attention! You’ll see them everywhere too!
It is a morning habit to turn on the news when we get out of bed but the past few days, we’ve traded in hearing the depressing news happening in the world for watching fish swim around an aquarium on YouTube.

It’s called…Color Therapy.

Record Breaking Temps: SF Weather

We had a few days of record-breaking temperatures this week and made it a priority to take advantage of the sunshine.

Before Grandpa George left San Francisco to return home, we hit the beach.  Needless to say, it was packed!  We staked out a little real estate near the water where we pointed at birds, put our feet in the sand, and watched Wally run after other dogs.

Meditate + Breath

Sometimes I get so wrapped up my daily tasks, to-do lists, and life stressors that I forget to step back, slow down, and take a deep breath.

After a frustrating client call yesterday for work, I took a mini hike to let go of my frustrations. Sounds pretty simple, right? Well, it was! And, it worked!

After a 4+year drought, El Nino has brought a ton of rain our way, which has made everything lush and green.  The sky and the Earth was so beautiful, the hike felt almost magical.

In my thoughts and tasks, I completely forgot to acknowledge that yesterday, February 10th, marked Henry’s 13th-month mark.  How could I have let the day pass without letting him know how excited I am to celebrate another month with him…my favorite person!?

The days are passing me by at such an alarming rate that it seems a lot of things are getting pushed to “tomorrow,” which never actually comes. Because when tomorrow becomes today, it gets pushed to tomorrow again.

I’m doing my best. That’s all I can do.

Wally + Henry = Walry!

These two are just peas in a pod.

I came home from yoga the other night to find the two of them snuggled together in bed. Yes, I risked waking both of them up by taking a photo with flash but it was well worth it. They BOTH slept through the whole thing.

Weekend Fun: Palace of Fine Arts

Last weekend, we went to the beach and explored the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina district.  It was unplanned and completely spontaneous but everything fell into place that day.

Well, almost everything!  We did forget the stroller. Oops! We easily fixed that {problem} by popping into Target and buying him a $20 umbrella stroller.

This kid loved his new wheels!

The Palace of Fine Arts ended up being the perfect stop in our city walk because we had the chance to get up close and personal with the ducks, geese, and swans.  Weirdly enough, Henry woke up that morning saying the word, “duck,” which of course sounds like a different word entirely. We knew it was “duck” because he pointed to the duck photos in his picture books.

Thanks for the help, man! Phew
