My Favorite Person is HH

there’s no denying it! HH has completely taken up my entire heart.  As I see a new milestone being reached e v e r y single d a y, I forget how little he really is. How young. How tender. How innocent. How pure.

He acts much older than his age, and I treat him as if we are equals, not like he is a baby.

The Day He Spotted A Basketball

If you don’t believe in love-at-first-sight then you haven’t seen these photos!  While packing up the stroller for a picnic at Treasure Island with friends, Henry spotted his daddy’s basketball in the trunk of the car.

He reached for it and the rest is history.  He hasn’t let it leave his sight.   Hen is currently holding it in his little lap sitting on the floor next to me while I type this.  Oh BOY!

Still don’t believe me? We wanted to test out the “ball”

Still don’t believe me? We wanted to test out the “ball” and see if he would get the association if we were on a basketball court.  Well, I’m happy to report that he knew exactly what to do. Let’s say he learned it from television.  He and his dad have “guy time” when big sporting events are on TV and with the end of March Madness, Hen picked up a thing or two.

I Like Good Books + I Can Not Lie

bookworm

Henry is a big bookworm!  He is always going straight for the books and leafing through them to look at the pictures. He sometimes babbles while evaluating each page, which makes it seem like he is reading.

It is beyond adorable.

We’ve started going to the library each week to stock up on more books to keep him interested.

One observation I’ve made is that the books he grabs from his room are the ones I read to him at night when he was a few months old.

Let me be honest, reading to a newborn/infant seems pointless when you are doing it because they just kind of lay there while you listen to your own voice and you feel absolutely ridiculous. BUT, I did it anyway and am now reaping the benefits – yes, several months later.

Grab the books. Get cozy. And read. read. read.

The Nine Month Check-Up

Our little turkey is growing up! It’s hard to believe, but he just went to his nine (9) month check up.

His stats are as follows:

Weight: 19 lbs 4 oz (36.58%, Source: WHO)

Height: 29.21″ (73.39%, Source: WHO)

Head Size: 18.82″ (97.82%, Source: WHO)

While his big head circumference is off the charts, he is a little small fry! I’m always shocked when people say, “He’s only nine months? He’s so big!!”  I want to scream, “No, he isn’t. He’s in the 36% percentile, lady!” For some reason, people calling him a big baby really IRKS me.  If you’re going to comment on his size, the best response would be to say, “He’s the perfect size.”

What’s new with his milestones?  There are so many!

For one, he is standing on his own.  He’s been hanging on to things with just his fingertips on one hand for a few weeks now, but, as of Halloween Day, he can now stand on his own without holding on to anything.

We were at a party when it happened and 25+ people witnessed it.  How cool!

He is just SO amazing.

I seriously say this to myself at least 96x a day. Really, I do! Every single day is something new with him.

…new sounds/words

…new milestones reached

…new facial expressions

…new foods consumed

…new adventures explored

new. new. new.

The funniest new thing he’s doing is squeezing himself into {incredibly} tight spaces.

…like in between a sliding glass door and a high chair.

I mean…

What did he think would happen?  Where did he intend to go?  Why on Earth would he even try this?

I have no idea, but he is adorable while he does it!

The SugarSkull Baby

Talk about problems!

We have two Halloween events this year but only one costume idea.  Oh no!

Because I don’t want to spoil the main “costume” on a Friday night stroll through the neighborhood for candy, I took a looksee through our stuff and came up with the idea is sugarskulls for our family costume.

…think Day of the Dead!

This morning, Henry modeled the sugar skull “mask” I made him.  A few more tweaks, and it will be ready for Friday’s festivities.

Total cost – $0!

I had all the materials on hand.

A headband. Felt. Fabric glue. And a needle + thread. Done!

Mama & Baby Afternoon

Because I’ve been away on work travel, I was needing some 1:1 time with Mr. Henry Hayes!  After a few hours of work, we headed to downtown San Francisco to play tourist for a day and stroll around in the sunshine.

We played with leaves in Washington Park in North Beach. We said HELLO to the sea lions at Pier 39. We got a coffee in Fisherman’s Wharf. We looked at the boats in the Bay and snapped photos of Alcatraz Island.  In short, we had an AWESOME day.

From the smiles and giggles I got from him, I would say that he was wanting some Mama-time too!IMG_3440IMG_3509 IMG_3505 IMG_3501 IMG_3492 IMG_3486 IMG_3473 IMG_3467 IMG_3460 IMG_3456 IMG_3453

What the Hell!

What the hell!! I have an eight month old? How the heck did that happen?

Seriously, this year has been the toughest one of my life so thank heavens Henry kicked off the year with  us or else I’m not sure how I would have made it through.

While everything else seems to be messy and complicated, I can always count on his giggles and gummy smiles to lighten the heaviness of this year.  Because of him, I get up every morning ready to conquer the world.

Every single day, I do my best to make it a little easier for him because life is tough. We live in a harsh world.

I do my part by covering him with kisses, wrapping him in a warm embrace, and giving him more love than is even possible.

Xoxo

Naps, Schnaps!

While in Denver, this little turkey was on a nap strike!  The only way we could get him to sleep was to put him in the stroller and walk. miles. and miles. and miles.  It seemed that most times as soon as the stroller stopped, so did his nap. Oh, man!

When your old standbys such as the swaddle, a pacifier, rocking, swaying, singing, etc doesn’t work, it’s time to throw up your hands and do the only thing that seems to work, which in this case was a walk in the stroller.

I felt like I was on high alert for eye rubs, yawns, and sensitivity as I tried not to miss my window for nap times.  Even though Henry is a chill baby and remained in a playful, happy mood, I know that naps are important for his brain, his growth + development, and his health so was a bit stressed about his nap strike.  By the end, I was willing to do anything if it meant getting him to sleep.

When he did nap, he napped hard as evidenced by the photos below.  Life is good.
